Fine Tuning

Fine tuning a piano involves altering the tension of every single string inside. With three strings per key in some parts of the piano, this can be a tiring and intensive job. Pianos can sit untuned for long periods of time, which really detracts from their tone, character, and even amplitude in some instances. We recommend a fine tuning every 9 months for most pianos, and more often if it is being used for concert performances, or is of a lower quality build, such as spinets.

If a piano has been untuned for 5 or more years, and has dropped significantly in pitch, a tuner must first raise the pitch of the piano before fine tuning it. This is called a pitch raise, and is usually done in the same session as the fine tuning, or about a week apart, which can help the strings to settle more.

We can tune your piano either to concert pitch, A440, or to another specified frequency, should you desire that.
